In this week’s issue of Harlem News, we highlight the Harlem Tourism Board’s inspiring participation in the Oneness Festival held in Ghana in December 2025, a celebration that strengthened cultural ties and showcased Harlem’s global presence. (page 10-11)
We also note an important development for families across our city: Governor Kathy Hochul and New York City Mayor Mamdani have announced the expansion of childcare access to include two‑year‑olds. This marks a meaningful step forward for young parents striving to balance work, family, and opportunity. (page 3).
We also pause to honor the life and legacy of Thomas H. Watkins. I had the privilege of working for the Daily Challenge Group and alongside Thomas for many years. Much of what I know about the publishing world comes from his guidance, generosity, and unwavering professionalism. His impact on our industry and on all who knew him will not be forgotten.
RIP Thomas H. Watkins. (page 12)
