Urbanology: AI–A Brave New World 2023
By W.A. Rogers
A Brave New World by Aldous Huxley’s was published in 1932. The focus of Huxley’s novel was about a future society where the government uses technological and medical innovations to exercise control over its citizens. There has always been a thin line between science fiction and fiction.
There are many science fiction movies about manmade robots who decide humans are not fit to rule the world. The movie “The Terminator” comes to mind {written by Sophia Stewart, a Black women}. There are some who believe Artificial Intelligence {AI} technology may one day override the human fallacy of leadership and decision-making of its human creators.
Artificial intelligence is a technology where computer systems have the ability to perform tasks that typically require human intelligence, such as recognizing speech, identifying images, making decisions, and solving problems. AI technology involves the development of algorithms and models that enable computers to learn from data, reason and make decisions, and interact with the environment in a human-like way.
Advanced AI technology allows machines to analyze and interpret vast amounts of data, recognize patterns and relationships, and make predictions and decisions based on that data. Currently, AI has many applications, such as virtual assistants, medical and legal advice, even self-driving cars, and brain surgery.
I read an article once that some of the first self-driving cars were often running into Black people because only white people were programmed in the algorithms for AI model of the early cars. I’m not sure if that was true, but I can’t out rule it.
If you have an Apple device, you have a personal assistant named Siri. I don’t remember the last time I opened a dictionary. If you have a Microsoft Windows-powered phone, Cortana is your voice-controlled assistant. With the Xai AI technology, Amy will schedule your meetings and respond to emails.
Amazon’s Alexa is not an AI device, but AI technology is used to make Alexa smarter and more versatile. There was a funny video on Tik Tok where a brother in the hood was trying to get Alexa to understand him.
He soon realized that Alexa had not been programmed to speak with brothers from the hood. It reminded me of the self-driving car issue; not sure if it’s true, but I can’t rule it out.
AI algorithms can now be obtained online, like Chat GPT or Ask AI for information about almost anything. Jasper AI can be used as a writing assistant for blogs, social media content, and marketing copy. The Do Not Pay AI Lawyer can help avoid many legal fees along with a host of other professional fees.
The Murf AI can turn your text to speech for voice-over videos. AI is slowly allowing computers to think for us. Computers are getting smaller; there are computer AI brain implant models currently being tested. You will not have to speak to your AI machine; you can think about the task you would like it to perform.
Undoubtedly, AI is and will continue to replace human functions in the world. AI technology will continue to advance for personal use, business, and government use. One wonders what the future of Brave New World will look like
