Sylvia’s Restaurant, the world-famous “Queen of Soul Food,” proudly celebrated 64 years of dedicated culinary and community service in Harlem. Coinciding with this historic anniversary, the Sylvia & Herbert Woods Scholarship Foundation is celebrating 25 years of empowering local students through higher education. To commemorate these parallel legacies, Sylvia’s hosted its Annual Free Community Breakfast on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at its flagship location in the heart of Harlem.
Hosted in partnership with the foundation, the celebration serves as a cornerstone event for the Village of Harlem and surrounding New York City communities. The event brought together the Woods family, Sylvia’s Restaurant staff, community partners, and local supporters for a vibrant morning featuring a free community breakfast, live entertainment, family-friendly activities, voter registration drives, community resource booths, and the foundation’s highly anticipated scholarship presentations.

The annual community breakfast served more than 500 neighbors. Staying true to the restaurant’s generational commitment to service, education, and community uplift, all food, activities, and services were provided entirely free of charge to attendees..
