This week, Harlem bursts into celebration as HARLEM WEEK 2025 kicks off its 51st annual festival under the theme “Celebrate Our Magic.” From August 1–17, there will be many events including Senior Citizens Day (Aug 1), Summer Streets block parties (Aug 2, 9, 16), Climate Change Conference (Aug 6), Uptown Night Market (Aug 7 & 14), and the grand finale HARLEM DAY (Aug 17) featuring three stages of entertainment, global cuisine, and cultural showcases. In a powerful show of unity, the Black Church and Black Press have announced a historic partnership to confront systemic disparities in Black communities. Led by faith leaders and the National Newspaper Publishers Association, the coalition will focus on education, economic equity, and civic engagement, declaring: “When we act as one, we cannot be ignored or denied.” (see page 3)
On August 14, the Harlem Tourism Board will host a Cultural Tourism & Hospitality Conference at the Harlem Renaissance Marriott. The event will spotlight Harlem’s new “City Within a City” campaign and feature a special appearance by His Royal Majesty Buipe Wura Jinapor II of Ghana, who will announce a cultural partnership and receive a ceremonial Key to Harlem.
