When is enough actually enough? When we decide there is no more to say, something must be done. The use of the word enough is sufficient, suitable, ample, adequate, acceptable, and satisfactory. Enough is when someone stands up to proclaim that no more will be tolerated.
Enough can be a response to an offering to add more to what has already been given, such as the psychological warfare of overeating. The battle is between how much we should eat and how much we want to eat. You have heard the phrase, eat to live, or live to eat. Just say politely, no thank you, I have enough.
If the plate is smaller and the food is piled higher, there is no reduction in the quantity. Too much of anything is more than enough. The theory is a little bit of this and a little bit of that, a dollop will do. You can have enough of a little bit of something, or a whole lot of something that amounts to no good.
We have just come through two of the largest eating periods of the year. Thanksgiving feasting followed by Christmas holiday family gatherings are guarantees that our appetites will catapult over the edge of sensible indulgence. The fine dining on New Year’s Eve closes out the gouging season with high caloric cocktails and champagne.
In other areas, such as finance, wishing and hoping without a consistent saving plan must reach a stance of enough is enough, a change has got to come.
Let us acknowledge the facts. It is a new year, and a new beginning is at hand. I believe it will prove to be time well spent if we meditate on where we are right now and concentrate on where we want to be by this year’s end. It must start with a personal desire to be better and to do better. Recognize that help is available if we seek it.
We are familiar with words written by poets and recording artists in their soulful songs that strike a deep chord in our heart and lift our spirit on a dreary day, with their melody.
Listening to words written by others may open similarities in the storyline, but you have your own story, and your words must speak to your heart in ways that are pertinent to your situation.
Whatever it is that you feel you do not have at this point, take pride in knowing that you withstood the blows. You made something out of nothing, sacrificed and served above and beyond, despite the disappointments and drawbacks.
Right now, is the time to speak profoundly to yourself, beginning with enough is enough. Prepare to move onward and upward. Make 2025 happy and healthier and more prosperous than you ever imagined. It has only just begun.
