SUMMARY:Freedom Riders: A Journey with No End in Sight
DESCRIPTION:Freedom Riders: A Journey with No End in Sight is a searing theatrical concert reading that charts a century of America’s struggle for racial justice at a time when it is under siege. As a powerful prelude to its October premiere at Harlem Stage\, the production embarks on a landmark South-to-North tour\, an homage spanning 100 years of freedom movements (1925–2025). From the Great Migration when six million Black Americans fled the Jim Crow South\, to the courageous Freedom Riders who traveled from North to South to challenge segregation\, to the modern-day racial reckoning sparked by the Black Lives Matter Movement\, this timely work will amplify the unrelenting pursuit of justice in America across generations. \n\n\n\n\n\nA Cast of Titans. A Score That Soars. Stories That Must Be Told. Storytellers that Can’t Be Ignored. \nConceptualized and directed by Harlem Stage’s visionary Artistic Director & CEO\, Indira Etwaroo\, Freedom Riders assembles a transcendent cast of celebrated artists from across film\, television\, and Broadway: \n●      Lisa Arrindell* (Disappearing Acts\, Saints & Sinners) \n●      Russell Hornsby* (Fences\, The Hate U Give\, Grimm) \n●      Billy Eugene Jones* (A Soldier’s Play\, Purlie Victorious) \n●      Angelica Ross* (Pose\, American Horror Story) \n●      Stephen Tyrone Williams* (A Master Builder\, The Knick) \nA live musical score is seamlessly woven through these first-person stories of survival\, loss\, resistance\, and love—collaboratively composed and performed by piano virtuoso Arden Altino\, genre-defying violinist Daniel Bernard Roumain\, and Grammy-nominated bassist and former Beyoncé musical director\, Divinity Roxx. The result is a powerful fusion of word and sound\, culminating in a stirring finale that reverberates with hope\, courage\, and the collective will to rise. This original sound score is made possible through Harlem Stage’s signature commissioning initiative WATERWORKS. The theatrical concert reading includes lighting and projection design by Devin Cameron\, costume design by Jorge Rosario and sound design by Gaines Legare with LED Special Effects. Sydney Cusic* is the Production Stage Manager.   \nThis is an Actors’ Equity Association Production. Actors’ Equity Association Members.* \n\n\n\n\n\nDon’t miss the 10-year anniversary of the groundbreaking theatrical concert reading\, and the reimagining of 12 Angry Men and Women.
